Why is Internet Security so important?
Internet security should be top of your list when it comes to computer security, after all the internet is the major source of all viruses. But what exactly is Internet security?
Internet security is more of a procedure rather than a tool or piece of software, but in order to be secure whilst using the internet you will need security software. A little confusing? Internet Security is hard to define. It’s kind of like a protocol that you should stick to rather than a specific software package or tool. Software alone won’t secure you enough online, you need to be fully aware of ‘dodgy’ looking adverts and pages and be able to look out for signs that protect you further.
Free or paid internet security isn’t really a thing, but in order to be more protected we suggest buying and installing a paid antivirus suite. Now this isn’t technically paid internet security as some of the steps to take will be down to your own knowledge and experi…

Last year you bought the most up-to-date version of Norton Antivirus, and now you're getting notices that it's time to renew. Unfortunately, unless you added a yearly budget for anti-virus protection, this might come as a nasty surprise. When you purchase Norton, you buy a year license. Unless you upgrade and pay for another year of protection, your anti-virus will stop working and your computer will not be protected.
Yearly Licenses
The software license that comes with a Norton anti-virus product is good for one year, on one computer. This means that if you have multiple computers in the office, you'll need a license on each computer. The cost of a yearly license varies, depending on which version of Norton's anti-virus services you're using. As of March 2013, the basic anti-virus costs $50 for a yearly license, while Norton 360 costs $80 for a yearly license.
How to Renew
You can renew Norton directly from your anti-virus program -- the 'Renew Now' button should be near the bottom of the screen, and will lead you through the process of checking out, which is secure to protect your financial information. You can also go to the Norton website to update your license or to choose another Norton product, such as to upgrade or downgrade from your current Norton product.
Free Alternatives
If you would rather try another anti-virus program, there are free alternatives that will work just as well on your business computer. AVG Anti-Virus Free 2013 scored better than Norton in malware blocking, and only came in third in malware removal, after Norton. If you're only running one or two computers for your business, Avira offers a free anti-virus software -- but it also offers a commercial business alternative. Microsoft allows you to use Security Essentials for free for up to ten business computers.
Protect Your Computer
Whether you decide to stick with Norton on your office computer or not, you should always make sure that you're protected by some sort of anti-virus program. Without an anti-virus program, you're at risk of exposing your professional data to hackers and even infecting other computers on your office network. Viruses can also get into your email and send off messages to your contacts, putting your clients and coworkers at risk as well.
